Inventor, artist and scientist, universal talent of the Renaissance, Leonardo Da Vinci died on May 2, 1519.

Five hundred years have passed since the death of the greatest Italian artist of the Renaissance, a pure talent in every field.

Illustrator, essayist, scenographer, anatomist, musician, designer and inventor: this was Leonardo da Vinci.

The Virgin of the Rocks

Creator of works of art that museums all over the world continue to display with great pride.

He was born in 1452 in Vinci, a little town not far from Florence, then the cultural and artistic centre of the Italian peninsula (and of all Europe).

The “Cenacolo”

He began as an apprentice in Verrocchio’s workshop, before moving on to the most flourishing Renaissance cities of the time, such as Milan, Venice and Mantua.

He left as a gift to humanity some of the most beautiful works of art, such as the Virgin of the Rocks, the Last Supper, the Lady with an Ermine, the Adoration of the Magi, the Salvator Mundi andthe Mona Lisa.

He was not only an artist, but also an inventor: we owe to him the first studies and the first projects on the flight of birds (and the first prototypes of the so-called “flying machines”).

He also made a few studies on military engineering in Venice that produced an early prototype of a tank and a giant crossbow.
